Port Blair, Sept. 9: Transport Department under A & N Administration not only provides efficient public road transport to the commuters in the UT but also ensures that its crews are sensitive towards the commuters. Few grievances from the commuters were received and immediately in order to address this, it has been decided to improve the behavioural aspect of employees by way of organizing Soft Skill training to the employees at regular intervals.

In a significant initiative to enhance public transportation services, Transport Department organized a successful soft skill training program for its bus drivers and conductors. The training inaugurated by the Director of Transport, Dr. Jatinder Sohal, today, aimed at fostering better communication, customer service, and safety practices among the frontline staff of the transportation sector. The Director highlighted the significance of soft skills in improving the overall efficiency of public transport service. He emphasized on commuter satisfaction in public transport. He advised the crews that dealing cordially with commuters leads to mental peace, which in turn provide cordial atmosphere in the lives of employees as well as commuters. The Director of Transport while appreciating the tireless effort of employees of the Department also motivated them that slight change in habit like welcoming the commuters can do wonders and make commuters satisfied and happier. However, it was also stressed that anyone indulging in misbehaviour with passengers will be dealt severely.

The program was attended by 40 employees and covered a range of essential soft skills emphasizing the improvement of inter-personal skills and soft skill including effective communication; conflict resolution; customer service excellence; emotional intelligence and stress management.

Earlier, while welcoming the gathering, the Deputy Director, Transport, Shri B. Binoy emphasized the need for personality development of the crews and the importance of soft skill in improving the image of the public transport service rendered by the Department and strengthening the cordial relation between crews and commuters.

Senior Officers of Transport Department along with the Assistant Director (Transport) and Transport Officer imparted training to the employees based on various case studies.

The training program aligns with the Transport Department’s commitment to enhancing service quality and ensuring a positive experience for all passengers. The initiative also reflects a broader recognition of the critical role that soft skills play in the transportation sector. The session aimed to enhance the participant’s ability to provide excellent customer service and ensure passenger safety.
