Sri, Vijaya Puram, Oct. 27: The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, successfully organized a Disability Screening Camp-cum-Awareness Programme on welfare schemes for persons with disabilities in the Conference Hall of the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Campbell Bay on Oct.24, 2024.
Dr. Keshav Narendra Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Nicobar District inaugurated the event and appreciated the efforts of CRC and the Directorate of Social Welfare in reaching out to the Island’s most remote populations.
Earlier, the program commenced with a welcome address by Smti Sumithamol, Director of CRC A&N Islands, who emphasized the importance of outreach programs in remote areas to ensure that Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) have access to essential services and welfare schemes.
The programme was also attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including E S. Rajesh, Pramukh, Dr. Irene, Medical Officer, PHC, Campbell Bay, Shri Barnabas Chairmen, Tribal Council, Great and Little Nicobar, Smti Rameshwari, Pradhan, Campbell Bay, Shri Venkat Rao, Pradhan, Govind Nagar, Shri Prahlad Singh, Pradhan, Laxmi Nagar & Smti Brindha, Mukhiya Sevika, Campbell Bay
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 150 individuals, including PwDs, family members, and community stakeholders. The Disability Screening Camp provided free assessments by Rehabilitation Professionals. About 70 participants were screened for various disabilities, including mobility, hearing, vision impairments, and intellectual disabilities. Eligible beneficiaries were provided with assistive devices on the spot, and further referrals were made for specialized interventions. The Anganwadi workers played a crucial role in gathering and disseminate information among public.
During the awareness programme, participants were informed about critical welfare schemes such as Niramaya Health Insurance, Scholarships for PwDs, ADIP (Assistance for purchase of aids and appliances) and employment and livelihood opportunities through PM-Daksh initiative. Practical guidance on accessing these schemes were provided by Shri T.Y.Abid, Lecturer in Physiotherapy, CRC A&N and Ms Janifa, Block Resource Person, PM Shri GSSS Campbell Bay.
