Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 11: To improve the oral health situation in the country, GoI has initiated a National Oral Health Programme to provide integrated, comprehensive oral health care in the existing health care facilities with the objectives to improve the determinants of oral health, to reduce morbidity from oral diseases, to integrate oral health promotion and preventive services with general health care system etc.
In this context, Dental Screening & Awareness Camp was organized at Govt. Sr. Sec School, Oralkatcha, Baratang under National Oral Health Programme (NOHP), State Health Society in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services, A&N Administration. A total of 258 students were screened for disease related to oral cavity and substance abuse (Tobacco). 18 students were referred to PHC Baratang for further treatment and medication. 2 students were diagnosed with pouch keratosis due to tobacco use. 19 students were found with habit of substance abuse. A health talk on maintenance of oral hygiene was delivered to patients and students. Counselling was done for students with cases of substance abuse. Brush with toothpastes were distributed to students from pre-primary section to Class V.
93 patients were screened at PHC Baratang on Nov. 5 & 6, 2024. A total of 21 extractions were done, out of which, 12 were cases of preshedding mobility of deciduous teeth and remaining 9 were grossly decayed permanent teeth.
