Visakhapatnam, Jan 27: Young chess players from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands delivered remarkable performances at the Sri Chess Academy 3rd FIDE Below 1800 Rating Chess Tournament, held from 24th to 26th January 2025 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Competing against over 400 participants from across India, ten players from the islands secured impressive positions. In the Below 1600 Rating Category, J S Virat clinched 2nd place, earning a cash prize of ₹8,000. In the Main Open Category, D Shrestha Vijay secured 11th position and was awarded ₹5,000.
In the age-specific categories, Rohan Singh secured 3rd place in the Under-11 Boys category, while M Ritwik finished 5th in the Under-07 Boys category.
In the Under-07 Girls category, N Dhanusri and D Neharika achieved 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively, while T Aarohi secured 4th position in the Under-09 Girls category.
S Varanya earned 3rd place in the Under-13 Girls category, while in the Under-15 Girls category, Chittiboina Mageswari and N Rashika claimed 3rd and 4th positions, respectively. The players received trophies for their achievements, showcasing their talent and dedication to the game.
The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) congratulated the winners on their outstanding performances and expressed optimism for the future of chess in the islands. ANCA reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing and promoting local talent, ensuring continued success on the national stage.
