Hunfrygunj, Feb 17: The team of Police Station Humfrygunj apprehended an individual involved in illegal wildlife trade and seized 161 Kgs of wild life protected Deer meet.

On 16.02.2025 at 2100 hrs, a credible information was received from a reliable source indicating that an individual was illegally transporting venison using a fishing dinghy and was expected to arrive at the Wandoor Fish Landing Centre. Acting promptly on this information, SI Subramani, SHO PS Humfrygunj swiftly constituted a team comprising of PCs Raja, Sanjib Kumar Shil and Periyaswamy. The team immediately proceeded to the Wandoor Fish Landing Jetty to intercept the suspect.

At approximately 2150 hrs, an engine dinghy bearing Registration No. IND-AN-SA-MO-407 arrived and berthed at the jetty. The police team swiftly approached and inspected the dinghy. During the inspection, an ice box containing three plastic gunny bags filled with red meat was discovered. The meat was suspected to be venison.

In the presence of independent witnesses, the seized venison was weighed and found to total 161 kilograms. The dinghy along with the contraband was seized and the individual operating the dinghy, identified as Deen Bandhu Das (28 years) S/o Late Paritosh Das, a fisherman and resident of New Wandoor was apprehended after observing all codal formalities.

Later, the seized venison, engine dinghy and the apprehended individual were handed over to Forest officials for further legal action.

The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of Shri Rahul L Nair, IPS.
