Port Blair, Jan. 3: Few local youths of Diglipur, the Northern most tip of Andaman Islands have vowed to put in all efforts to bring Diglipur in the list of most preferred tourist destination in the world. The youths have registered a Society called “Diglipur Association for Rural Tourism and Ecological Development (DARTED), which has identified various locations to add to the list of tourist spots to be visited.

Among the new findings are Mud Volcanoes at Hathi Level, Shyam Nagar, Alfred Caves at Patti Level, Ram Nagar, Craegy Island for Snorkelling, Waterfalls etc.

Talking to Andaman Chronicle, the President of DARTED Shri Uttam Kumar Saha said, “Our motto is not only to explore and develop tourist spots. We aim to develop the economy of area by providing employment opportunities to hundreds of residents who do not have a regular source of earning”.

“To start with we have persuaded the Gram Panchayat and residents of Shyam Nagar to develop an approach path to the live mud volcano, which is worth watching. We have also designed banners and installed it at various places in the town”.

AFJ Rajan (Alex Rajan), the Secretary said, “There are ‘n’ number of tourist spots in Diglipur, which will be loved by the tourists. But for this there is a need for proper connectivity to the island”.

“In this regard we are approaching the concerned departments of A&N Administration through Panchayats to have regular boat services. We have also suggested that the boats going to Havelock can further proceed to Diglipur. This will enable the tourists visiting Havelock to have another destination to be explored in their itinerary”, he said.

Our agenda is to have better connectivity to the Island apart from having a Watch Tower at Saddle Peak, Getting in Dive Shops and Dive Centres into Diglipur among others, explained the Joint Secretary DARTED Shri Bibhas Kumar Biswas.

DARTED has also planned to display amazing photographs of Diglipur in the forthcoming Island Tourism Festival inside the IP&T’s stall.

“We hope that through our photo display at ITF, we will be able to showcase Diglipur as the best tourist destination in the Islands”, D.J. Venkatesh, Vice President of the Society said.
