Port Blair, July 13: The Director, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, A&N Islands is appointed as the Registrar for implementation of UID Project in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Under this project the Demographic and Bio-metric information of each and every resident shall be collected through an enrolment agency and based on the information collected a 12 digit UID Number shall be issued to the resident by UIDAI(Unique Identification Authority of India). The Government of India envisages linking all the social sector schemes through Aadhaar with a view to reach the benefits directly to the beneficiaries without any pilferage. In future all the citizen’s centric services like old age pension, widow pension, MGNREGA Job Cards, Ration Cards and Other Social Security Pensions/Health Schemes shall be Aadhaar based.
 
The enrolment process shall begin with the enrolment of the Hon’ble Lt. Governor on 15/07/2011 at Raj Niwas. Thereafter the enrolment of the residents of Ward No.5, 6 & 13 shall commence from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium at 5.30 PM. Shri Shakti Sinha, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration will preside over the inaugural function and Ms. Firdhosh Bibi, Chairperson PBMC will also present in the function.
 
For getting enrolled, Enrolment Forms are available with the respective Municipal Councilors and it shall also be made available to the General Public at the enrolment centre. General Public are requested to fill the forms and bring copy of documents like Ration Card, Islander Identity Card or any one of the documents as listed in the Enrolment Form to prove ones Identity and Proof of Address to the Enrolment Centre. Upon verification of resident’s documents at the enrolment centre as regard to proof of Identity and proof of address enrolment shall be made by the enrolment agency by collecting the Demographic and Biometric information of the residents. After enrolment the 12 digit UID Number shall directly be sent at the resident’s address by the UIDAI by post within 60 to 80 days.
