Port Blair, Jan. 12: As part of Army’s commitment of supporting the humanitarian organizations and providing unflinching support to the Children of orphanages, it once again showcased its concern for the poor and needy children by organizing a Special Picnic for the orphanages in the Islands. The event was organized on 11 Jan 12 at the beautiful ‘Nariyal Beach’ of Birchgunj Military Station as part of the grand celebrations of 64th Army Day.

The picnic was a wholesome event that comprised games, painting, quiz competitions and dance aimed at providing a recreational day out and quality time for the Children of the orphanages. The event commenced with serving of refreshments, and number of entertainment games which were keenly contested by all the children. With ‘KNOW YOUR ARMY’ & ‘MY NATION, MY ARMY’ being the themes of Quiz & Painting Competitions respectively, the event was also aimed at generating awareness about Indian Army amongst the young generation as also to provide them an opportunity to exhibit their creativity on the Canvas. It provided for recreation to the children by means of participation in various games and dances as part of the picnic. A total of 150 children participated in the picnic.

Mrs Pooja Marwah, President DWWA, who was the Chief Guest during the event, gave away numerous prizes to the winners. A sumptuous and delicious lunch was also organized for the children, which they relished. The Children of the orphanages also got a chance to shake a leg when the dance floor was thrown open to them.
