Port Blair, July 14: A delegation led by Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President Pradesh Congress Committee along with Pradhans and PRIs members including Shri Rangalal Halder, President, District Congress Committee, North & Middle Andaman met the Director of Rural Development and Panchayat on 12/07/2011 and apprised him the problems/issues coming in the way of executing of the development works at the different levels viz. Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samati & Zilla Parisahad.
The issues among others included 1. Work spit order under which the PRI functionaries will be empowered to award a particular works project in piece meal to the different local unemployed societies and contractors. Particularly work contract co-operative societies formed locally whatever the estimated cost may be of the work/ project. 2. Enhancement of the existing limit of the financial power of the PRI functionaries in view of the escalation of prices at all the three different levels in view of the escalation of prices so that they are not required to approach the administration for every bit of small work/project for sanction and 3. Appointments and posting of one executive engineer, one Assistant Engineer, Panchayay Samiti to look after the civil works undertaken by the various Panchayat at Middle & North Andaman.
According to a communication, the Director has assured to take up the issues with the Administration to issue necessary orders Notification as early as possible.
