Port Blair, July 15: ‘Planting Trees are the best tribute that a man can give to Mother Nature’. Following the saying, the Mahatma Gandhi International School, Brookshabad celebrated “Van Mahotsav” along with the Forest Department on 14th July by planting more than five hundred fifty trees in the school campus, which is the first time in the history of a School. Tree saplings were planted by junior and senior students of the school.

The Vanmahotsav was celebrated in the presence of the Director of the school Mr. C.P. Jaya Prakash, Principal Mr. Madhuj and D.F.O Mr. S.K. Das of A&N Forest Department. The main objective of celebrating the Mahotsav was to focus people’s attention on the national importance of planting and growing trees. MGIS thus passed a message among the Islanders that ‘we share this planet with many species’ and it is our responsibility to protect them, both for their sake and our own. The slogan of the day was “Plant trees and save the Ecosystem”.
