Port Blair, Aug. 16: It is to inform that the present electricity peak load demand is 32 MW and the present available generation is 30.5 MW. A shortage of 1.5 MW required to be managed to avoid load shedding. The power position in Port Blair and South Andaman almost has been restored by 5 MW with the repair of M/s. SPCL genset. The repair of another 5 MW, SPCL genset and the commissioning of additional 10 MW containerized DG set will take another month or so. Till then, we appeal that while today the department can keep “ZERO” load shedding at low consumption of power by general public and departments, but if there is indiscriminate usage, the peak demand will increase and there may be need to resort to power cuts. The quantum and duration of load shedding during evening hours could be totally avoided, if the general public, the consumers and all other Govt. & Private establishment cooperate with the department by voluntarily reducing the use of electrical gadgets and equipments to the minimum possible extent, so that the wastage is reduced and the department is able to meet its peak demand within the existing generation.

All consumers are requested to use barest minimum electrical equipments especially during evening peak hours i.e. from 1730 hrs. to  2200 Hrs.

We suggest during peak hours Air Conditioners, Geysers, Microwave Ovens, Washing Machines, electrical irons, water pump etc., etc., should be avoided for every ones benefits as much as possible.

The commercial establishments must stop using halogen lights in their shops & hoardings and switch-off all such lights which are not basically required.

It is our collective duty to save power by our own efforts so that we can give 24 hrs. electricity to everyone, the Executive Engineer (HQ) of the Electricity department stated in the appeal here today.
