Port Blair, Aug. 17: Shri Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration today inaugurated the Centralized Ambulance Call Centre at GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair at 5.00 PM in  presence of Shri Bhupinder S. Bhalla, Commissioner & Secretary (Health), Dr. S.K. Paul, Director of Health Services, Medical Superintendent, GB Pant Hospital and other senior doctors and staff of the Directorate.

The Call Centre has two dedicated toll free number 102. All calls on 102 from any island will automatically be routed to the centralized centre. The Centre will operate round the clock with data Entry-cum –Telephone operator on rotational duty. As soon as a request is received on phone for sending ambulance, the details will be recorded in a software and information conveyed to the medical officer in –charge / Duty Staff Nurse/ Duty ambulance Driver of nearest Health Centre to evacuate the patients. The status of the ambulance will also be monitored by the call centre till the patient reaches the nearest Health facility.

It is noteworthy that all calls to “102” from both land lines and mobile phones will reach the Centralised Centre immediately. The calls to “102” from mobile phones need not be prefixed by 03192.

The establishment of a dedicated Centralised Ambulance Call Centre was already announced by the Lt Governor during his Independence Day speech on 15th August, 2012.
