Port Blair, Aug. 23: Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM, Lt. Governor has sanctioned one lakh rupees to Shri Bonifas Ekka for facilitating him to have a good quality artificial limb. His arm had to be amputated in 2009 when he came in contact with a high tension cable. On 9th August a report was published that the artificial limb fitted was not up to the mark and he was not able to properly use it and thus feeling dejected. The Lt. Governor sought a report from the Social Welfare Department and sanctioned one lakh rupees from out of the LG’s Relief Fund to send Shri Bonifas Ekka to National Institute of Orthopedically Handicapped, Kolkata or to the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, Chennai for fixing the artificial limb. Social Welfare Department has been directed to coordinate for early action.
