Port Blair, Aug. 24: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee along with the Directors of the Consumers Co-operative Stores limited met the Chief Secretary, Shri Anand Prakash and appraised him that the CCS, registered under the Cooperative Societies Act is working in AN Islands since 1962 with more than 50 branches from Diglipur to Campbell Bay.

More than 300 dedicated employees are working in it. Since some of the business of this Cooperative Stores have been withdrawn by the A&N Administration due to some administrative reasons, the financial condition of the Stores is showing downward trend and the future of these employees are in dilemma.

Moreover the A&N Administration has also withdrawn an amount of Rs 5 Lakhs which was being granted to the CCS as transport subsidy. The reason for withdrawal of the subsidy is not known to the Directors, he said.

The PCC President therefore requested the CS to restore the transport subsidy and see to it that the Cooperative gets all possible support by the Administration.
