Port Blair, Aug. 27: Advocating for the shocked aspirant students who after clearing AISSE examination are still waiting for allotment of MBBS seats, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has written to the Lt. Governor wherein he explained that it was earlier requested by him for enhancement of MBBS seats from 18-30. Unfortunately instead of enhancing, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reduced the seats from18-15 seats.

This move by the ministry has shocked the students of these islands and the parent fraternity. Sharma said that despite various constraints, our students have secured excellent marks in their Class XII, which most of their counterparts at mainland could not. He further said that many of our students come from a very low income group and their parents cannot afford to educate them in Medical Science. Therefore the only hope for these aspirants is to get admission in MBBS through these reserved seats.

Sharma therefore requested the LG to take up the matter at the appropriate level to restore the 18 seats on priority basis.
