Port Blair, Sept. 2: A State Level Student’s Science Seminar-2012 on the topic ‘Mathematics in India: Past, Present & Future’ was held in the conference hall of Shiksha Sadan, here last week. This seminar was organized by the Deputy Education Officer (Science), Directorate of Education, A&N Administration in collaboration with the National Council of Science Museums, BITM, Kolkata.

Altogether 21 students of different schools from these islands participated in the said seminar.

Kumari Bhavana Anand of class X of Carmel SSS was declared first, who will represent this Union Territory in the National Level Student’s Science Seminar to be held at Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, Kolkata on Oct. 5, 2012. Kumari Hema Maurya of Class X of Govt. Model SSS, Port Blair bagged the second while the third position went to Kumari Vincky Nagar of class X of Naval Children School, Minnie Bay. Besides these, four consolation prizes and participation certificates were given to all participants.

The Director of Education Dr. R. Devdas was the chief guest on the valedictory function.

While addressing the gathering, he appreciated the students and congratulated them for their excellent presentations. Earlier, Dr. M. Ayyaraju, Deputy Director (Adult Education), A & N Administration inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. He stressed to develop interest in mathematics by constant practice so that it becomes an easy subject.    

The Deputy Education Officer (Sc.) Dr. Suman Devi welcomed the gathering while the programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Science Consultant, Miss. Suma.

Shri. G Thiagarajan, Faculty (Maths), DIET, Garacharama, Dr. V. Alagusundaram, Lecturer (SG), BRAIT, Dolly Gunj and Shri. Sambasivam, Assistant Professor, JNRM, Port Blair were the judges on the occasion.
