Car Nicobar, Sept. 3: A three day’s training programme on Vermi Compost was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Kimyus Village, Car Nicobar from 30th August, 2012 to 1st September, 2012. The 1st Headman from Kimyus village was the Chief Guest in the inaugural function and 2nd Headman was the Guest of Honor.

During the training programme, knowledge on various topic such as importance and scope of organic cultivation in Car Nicobar, types of plant nutrient and their role in different crops, different methods for making of compost, practical demonstration for making of coconut compost through  husk, use of  Animal waste as a source of organic manure, role of Agriculture department for promotion of organic cultivation, vermi composting, preparation of vermin wash and their use in vegetable and flower crops, practical demonstration on preparation of vermin compost in high density polyethylene pit, management of coconut waste and their uses, type of structures for making of compost pits, use of bio agent in making of coconut compost, mulching and their importance in organic cultivation, nutrient management in plantation and vegetable crops though use of Leguminous crops and locally available resources were imparted.

In the training programme 15 male and 15 female farmers participated and got benefitted. The training was successfully concluded on 1st September, 2012 under the guidance of Dr. Nagesh Ram, programme Coordinator I/c.
