Port Blair, Sept. 13: On 12th Sept. 2012 at about 1300 Hrs. Sub Inspector Vikas Singh, SHO PS Baratang along with Police Constables Mohd. Rafiq and Bhanu Issac, while on patrolling from Oral Kaatcha to South Creek noticed a person handing a bag to another. On suspicion, the police party raided and recovered 18 Nos. (750ml) bottles of IMFL from the possession of two persons namely K. Simhachalam S/o Late. K Appalswamy, 52, R/o Pathargudda (STS Bus Conductor in Diglipur Express, and Walter Kujur S/o Late Pawal Kujur, 30, R/o Bamboonallah, Baratang.

The above persons were arrested and IMFL was seized on the spot. In this connection a case under excise regulation has been registered at Police Station, Baratang. On questioning, Simhachalam (STS Bus Conductor) admitted to have procured the liquor bottles from Diglipur and was selling it to a civilian in a prohibited area at a higher price to make profit.

The Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District today said that the PS Baratang is making its sincere efforts to eradicate the illegal trade of IMFL (liquor) in the Buffer Zone of Baratang area. General public is requested to pass on any credible information regarding criminal/ illegal activities in their area to Police Control Room -100, SHO Baratang -03192-279503 & SP/SA – 03193-230077. The SP has assured that the identity of the informant would be kept secret and information leading to successful raid would entitle the informant of a handsome reward.
