Dear Sir,

From April this year the coverage of Transmission is only around 15 to 20 Kms. Due to this North and Middle Andaman as well as whole of Nicobar group is unable to receive the Radio. This is because the Active and Passive Mast of the Transmitter has fallen. Now from 13th afternoon the Transmission on MW and SW has stopped completely due to the failure of Transmitter.

You will be aware of the role AIR played during Tsunami. An urgent enquiry and action is required to fix the responsibility and to take necessary action to re install both active and passive mast on war footing looking in to the strategic importance of AIR in these remote Islands.

AIR Port Blair broadcast daily half an hour Tamil, Telugu, Bangla, Malayalam and Nicobari Programme. Due to the retirement of a Nicobari Announcer and due to transfer of rest of the Language Programme Executives and Language Announcers, the language sections are handled independently by Casual Announcers. Necessary action is to be taken to post Programme Executives of all these languages and also to transfer back all those Announcers who were posted for this Station, but left this Station on request transfer to their respective Hometown. Until such time these casual Announcers who have put in more than fifteen years of service in AIR Port Blair should be given yearly contract so that quality of programme is not compromised.

People in these Islands have come from various parts of the country. They are generally anxious to know what is happening in these Islands. In order to satisfy them news bulletin of Major State capitals like Kolkatta, Chennai, Bihar, Kerala, Punjab etc. is to be broadcast from AIR Port Blair daily.
