Port Blair, March 20: The long pending demand of the tribal people of Pilpillow and Kakana village of Kamorta Island for having a road connectivity has been fulfilled. A village road of 27.30 Kms from Kamorta to Pilpillow and Kakana and Pilpillow has been constructed by the Andaman Public Works Department.

Earlier the villagers of Kakana had to travel by boat from Kamorta and were facing a lot of problems to transport their household and other items. After Tsunami as per the demand of the Tribal People, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration had sanctioned the construction of Rural Road connecting Kakana and Pilpillow having a length of around 27.30 Km. The road passes through the jungle and due to consistent rain it was a challenging task to develop the base of the road. The logistic problem of transporting materials from Port Blair to Kamorta and to the site was also an added hurdle. However with persistent efforts, the APWD could complete the task.

The road will be connecting the habitation of 11 Km, Vikas Nagar, Kakana and Pilpillow. The road has been completed in all respect, within the sanctioned amount and is opened for traffic now. Bus service has also been started which is helping the students and public to travel to the headquarter area. The commendable work done by the APWD has been appreciated by the people of the area.
