Port Blair, March 26: Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar, the state of art Pollution Control Vessel arrived Port Blair after the overseas deployment on 26 Mar 13 and demonstrated its Pollution Response Capabilities. Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM, Commander-in-Chief Andaman & Nicobar Command and IG VSR Murthy, PTM,TM Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N), reviewed the Coast Guard Pollution Response demonstration on 26 Mar 13.
The Pollution Control Vessel demonstrated laying of Booms, operation of Disc Skimmers, Side Sweeping Arms and Spill Spray Arms. The 02 hr long demonstration was witnessed by 60 Coast Guard personnel and 10 officials from various stake holders such as Andaman & Nicobar Pollution Control Committee, Police Marine Force (PMF), Port Management Board, Indian oil Corporation Ltd Port Blair & Directorate of Disaster Management.
The 95 mtrs long fully indigenized ship is 2nd PCV of Coast Guard which was commissioned on 20 Jul 2012. The 4300 ton ship is fitted with the specialised equipment for tackling Marine Pollution and is capable of unhindered oil recovery operations with storage capability of 500 Kl. The ship has the complement of 10 officers and 93 men and is under the command of Deputy Inspector General Iqbal Singh Chauhan.
The CINCAN appreciated the demonstration & Pollution Response capabilities of ICGS Samudra Paheredar. He commended onerous task of preserving clean & healthy environment being shouldered by the Coast Guard in the Andaman & Nicobar Region.
