Port Blair, June 3: REVIVE, a local NGO dedicated for social services and awareness activities have conducted many awareness campaigns, sanitization and mask distribution drives at various parts of Port Blair, distributed PPE kits at Shamshan Ghat and G.B Pant Hospital.

Port Blair, June 3: The vaccination drive is continuing smoothly in A&N Islands and so far, a total of 8,306 eligible people in the age group of 18 to 44 years have been vaccinated till date.  As per the data available, altogether, 413 persons in the age group of 18 to 44 years were vaccinated in South Andaman District today.

Port Blair, June 2: The District Magistrate, South Andaman has banned the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of all forms of chewing tobacco in the South Andaman District w.e.f. 2nd June 2021. The ban will remain in force for one month till 2nd July 2021.

In view of the recent surge in the positive cases of COVID-19 in the Islands, the District Administration, South Andaman has been taking various proactive steps to contain the spread of the virus in the District.

Port Blair, June 3: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, has request the Chief Secretary that due to Covid lockdown public are staying at their homes. This has also increased the requirement of potable water in the family. Since the water level of Dhanikhadi dam is increased now, the MP requested the Chief Secretary to provide water supply every alternate day instead of third day.

Ban on Chewing Tobacco a Laudable Step but Comes as Threat for Petty Businessmen

Port Blair, June 2: Considering the steep rise in the corona positive cases in the South Andaman District, the District Magistrate South Andaman, Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS in an Order today has banned the manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of all forms of chewing tobacco in the district for a period of one month. The step taken by the District Magistrate is laudable and in the interest of the citizens’ welfare. But on the other hand, there is a big commotion among the petty businessmen and those who deal with tobacco products as to what will be done with the existing stock at hand.
