Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 28: With the aim to promote poultry keeping for income generation and sustainable livelihood, the Department of AH&VS provides hands on training and inputs to the farmers/unemployed youth/ women candidate through the Departmental farms established in different parts of the Islands.

Duck keeping, and vanraja birds have been promoted as backyard poultry due to low cost of production and their ability to thrive in free range condition. The dual purpose breed of poultry vanraja birds and ducks are known for their egg production as well as meat and therefore, gained popularity among the rural farmers. It is a source of livelihood while it contributes the protein requirement in nutrition.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 27: The inaugural function of the first-ever two-day Science Academics Lecture Workshop on Recent Advances in Biodiversity of Andaman and Nicobar Islands held at ZSI on 27th February, 2025. This workshop is sponsored by the Indian Academy of Sciences in Bengaluru; the Indian National Science Academy in New Delhi; The National Academy of Sciences in Prayagraj, India. The workshop's main goals were to enhance teachers' and students' understanding of biodiversity, with a particular focus on addressing the challenges posed by human-induced environmental changes.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 28: The Cargo Vessel MV Chuglam will sail for Campbell Bay via Car Nicobar, Chowra, Teressa, Katchal & Nancowry on March 6, 2025 at 1600 hrs from Haddo/Chatham Jetty and will sail for Sri Vijaya Puram immediately after discharging/loading of Cargo at respective ports. Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 27: In a significant step toward women’s empowerment and sustainable entrepreneurship, a new eco-friendly initiative has been launched at Ferrargunj Panchayat with the support of the Andaman Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM). Eight dedicated members of a local Self-Help Group (SHG) have come together to establish a production unit for biodegradable arecanut leaf plates. Securing a loan from the village organization, the group aims to promote both economic independence and environmental sustainability.
