Port Blair, March 6: The vessel MV Swaraj Dweep which sailed from Chennai is expected to arrive at Port Blair on March 8, 2023 at 0600 hrs. She has on board, a total passengers of 49 adults and 1 infant besides 22 containers containing 248.2 MT of cargo. On arrival, the vessel will be berthed at Haddo Wharf and passengers will be disembarked immediately.

Port Blair, March 5: To mark the International Women’s Day and with an attempt to shine a spotlight on some incredible women leaders who have contributed to transformational change in their community, villages and panchayats, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India organized a National event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 4th March, 2023 to give away the first ever Swachh Sujal Shakti Samman Awards. Smti. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India was the distinguished Chief Guest on the occasion. Programme was also graced by Sh. Gajendra Singh Shekawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti; Sh. Prahlad Singh Patel, Hon’bleMoS (Jal Shakti and Food Processing Industries); Sh. Bishweswar Tudu, Hon’ble MoS (Jal Shakti and Tribal Welfare); Sh. Devusinh Chauhan, Hon’bleMoS (Communications); Ms. Vini Mahajan, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Sh. Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

Port Blair, March 5: Highlighting the serious issue of indiscriminate power cuts in Port Blair and surrounding areas of South Andaman region, the Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to intervene in this matter and direct the electricity department to ensure that power production through powerhouses of the Electricity Department and independent power producers is more than the required demands all the time, especially during exam times and also during February to May, when the power requirement increases due to hot weather conditions.

Port Blair, March 5: A ‘ClothShare’ event was today organised at by Humane Touch in association with #Bageecha – an initiative of Andaman Chronicle, Sanjay Meshack, Ex-Councillor, PBMC and Cute Cottons Boutique at 3.00 pm at #Bageecha, Libra Cottage, Brichgunj Chowk, Prothrapur.

The event saw an overwhelming response from donors who had donated clothes in huge quantity and also the beneficiaries who had turned out in large number today. It was smiles and blessing all around the venue, which the beneficiaries having a word of praise for the donors and organisers, carrying back smiles on their faces. The free clothes distribution program ensured that no one went without proper clothing.

Port Blair, March 5: On 4th March 2023, Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary (RD/Panchayat) along with Shri. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, ADM, South Andaman, Shri. Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, SDM, South Andaman and Shri. Aditaya Kumar Asthana, Director (RD/Panchayat) visited the Gram Panchayat Wandoor and Gram Panchayat Humfrygunj for inspection of MGNREGA works, Amrit Sarovars, RURBAN works and Solid Waste Management Cluster. The PRI members of both the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Officials and Block staff were also present during the visit.
