Port Blair, July 26: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Jitendra Narain launched Plant Vegetables, Fruits, Flowers and Save Seeds Campaign Vision 2047-Processed Food Exports yesterday at Sippighat Agriculture Farm. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary stated that all Departments should play a catalytic role in the success of this mission which will provide food security to all in A&N Islands. Opining that this campaign is a Vision - 2047 for the A&N Islands, he mentioned that with the cooperation of all stakeholders and the people, we can achieve the goal of turning the Islands as a major exporter of fruits and processed food. He exhorted the citizens to strive to turn this mission into a people’s movement and appealed to individuals/ organizations and others to plant saplings of fruit and vegetable with the motto “Live for others”. The Chief Secretary and others planted saplings of fruit bearing trees in the campus of Sippighat Agriculture Farm on the occasion.

Port Blair, July 26: It was much of a surprise for islands’ social worker popularly known as Ration Rasheed to get a call from someone sitting far away at Pokhran, Rajasthan pleading to help nearly 40 families who are hand to mouth due to the ongoing Corona Pandemic. The call was from a folk singer named Ghulam Khan who sent a video message through social media narrating the pathetic condition of his community of traditional ethnic folk singers out there. The families were severely affected by the pandemic as they had lost their only source of income i.e. singing folk songs.

Port Blair, July 26: The Non Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, A&N Islands has demanded early settlement of a large number of ‘Mess bill reimbursement’ cases pending with Education department. In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Association pointed-out that hundreds of children studying in mainland are facing hardship as some authorities under the  Administration has created various new restrictions from the year 2019 for the eligibility of ‘mess bill reimbursement’ popularly known as Scholarship.
