Port Blair, Feb 1: An IT student from the islands has been arrested for involving herself in Cyber Crime with an intention to malign the image of a few respectable citizens in the islands.

The student is a girl doing her Masters in Computer Application from Annamalai Open University. She was arrested on Saturday after almost three months of investigation by the team of Central Crime Station. The accused was involved in posting sexually explicit posts by creating fake Facebook identities of the targeted victims.

Reports indicate that the accused had created a fake facebook ID of the victims in which she regularly posted highly objectionable messages and comments by hacking the friend list of the victims. The crime could not have been solved, had it not been the courage of one of the victims to lodge a complaint with the police.

The accused was arrested on Feb. 1, 2015 Under Section 66 (a), 66 (c) and 67 (a). The arrest was mainly possible because of intervention of the Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Mr. Sudhir Yadav himself. The DySP (CCS), Mr. Subodh Kumar Goswamy has also played a vital role in the whole process. The accused was finally produced before Hon'ble Court today and has been sent for a 14 Day Judicial Remand.
