Traffic Issues, Curbing the Menace of Bootlegging and Drugs on Agenda: DGP

Port Blair, Jan 12: Twenty-Two days after taking over as the new Director General of Police, A&N Islands, Shri Satyendra K Garg, IPS today had an informal interaction with the Editors of Daily Newspapers. Garg, who is well experienced in traffic management and law, while discussing his priorities with the scribes said that his focus will be on improving the traffic management system, curbing the menace of bootlegging and drug peddling and bridging the gap between the general public and the islanders.

Incidents of Pigeons Dying Reported in the City

Port Blair, Jan 12: There have been reports of death of large number of birds including migratory birds from several parts of the country. The preliminary reports indicate that it is a case of Avian Influenza Virus. Considering the grave situation, the Government of India has requested the States/ UTs to take all possible measures / precautions to prevent the transmission of diseases, if any, in other animals/ birds and human beings.

Port Blair, Jan 12: A cargo dinghy said to have been returning from Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) capsized near the North Bay. Reports gathered indicate that the dinghy loaded with hundreds of LPG cylinders had capsized on the 9th of January 2021. However the matter was not informed to the Indian Coast Guard for SAR operation.

Port Blair, Jan 12: The NGO ‘Seeds of Hope’ has appreciated the eleven year old Island girl, Betty Susan Jacob for her generous hair donation for the cancer patients. It was in October 2020 that Betty had donated her hair for the third time in a row, thus making her eligible to claim being the youngest hair donor to have donated hair three times.
