Port Blair, April 21: To tackle the recent surge in the COVID positive cases in the South Andaman and to prevent the further spread of virus the Administration has taken various proactive steps. In this connection few areas in and around South Andaman District were declared containment zones to restrict the movement of suspected cases.

Team comprising of officials from Revenue, Police, APWD and PBMC have been formed for the areas to maintain strict perimeter control and ensure that there is no movement of people in or out of these zones, except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services. Further only essential activities and services shall be allowed in the containment zones and intensive house-to-house surveillance is conducted by surveillance teams formed for the purpose.

Port Blair, April 21: Corona cases in the country as well as in the Islands are rising and with a view to contain the spread of the disease in the Islands, the Administration as a precautionary measure has taken several concrete steps in this regard.  Informing the scribes at a press conference held at IP&T today, the Secretary, IP&T, Shri Sunil Kumar Singh said during RAT conducted at Port Blair, 16 flight passengers have been detected corona positive while another 15 were detected from other places. 10 flights carrying 781 passengers including 7 infants arrived today.

Port Blair, April 21: In the wake of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the A & N Islands and to manage the risk of spread of COVID-19 virus due to the crowding of tourist places and in the interest, benefit and safety of the people in these islands the competent authority has decided to suspend all tourism activities for four weeks starting from 22nd April 2021. The areas include National Memorial Cellular Jail, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, also including the Light Sound Show at both these places, all museums, all beaches, Baratang Caves, all Water Sports activities, and any other such tourism activities in all the three Districts, for 04 weeks starting from 22/04/2021.

Port Blair, April 21: The increasing number of corona positive cases in the entire country is quite alarming. Here in A&N Islands too, the number of positive cases being detected on a daily basis is increasing at a faster rate. Efforts are being mounted from all quarters to curb the rate of transmission.

Port Blair, April 21: In view of the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, increased incidences of passengers coming to North & Middle Andaman District from Port Blair after negative RAT testing in convoy and then becoming positive after few days and to prevent the spread of virus in the district the District Magistrate N&M Andaman District in pursuance of powers vested u/s 51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and other to enforce strict compliance of the National Directives of COVID-19 and contain the spread of covid-19 N&M Andaman has directed that all persons coming to the district must undergo home quarantine for 07 (seven days) mandatorily from the date of arrival into the district except those who are on Govt. Duty. The drivers and staff of STS busses and cargo vehicles are exempted but have to follow the SOP.
