NHM Congratulates Two Specially Abled Artists on the Occasion of World Hearing Day

Port Blair, March 11: As Roger Crawford once said, “Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional.” We have such an example of two boys in our beautiful city of Port Blair who has displayed the idea of how individual challenges are fickle when you have immense willpower and determination to seek the wonders of the world. Kunal Bepari is a cochlear Implant candidate and Palash is a bilateral hearing aid user. These two gems having highly impaired hearing and all the communication is done by them is through sign language. They are currently undergoing sign language training along with periodic hearing assessments.

International Women’s Day was celebrated with quite a pomp and show in Kamorta Island in the Nancowrie subdivision. The occasion was graced by the Assistant Commissioner, Abhishek along with the First Captain Aslam Majid. Nancowrie Island is situated where the glistening Bay of Bengal and the lustrous Andaman Sea conjoin. These islands form a central part of the full Nicobar island chains. But today this mighty island is in news not for its surpassing natural beauty but for the celebration of women who emanate the feminine essence adding more colour to everyone’s life as well as surroundings.

Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands while appreciating the efforts put in by the A & N Administration for the ongoing vaccination drive of Health Care Staff and other frontline workers, has urged the administration to vaccinate all the school teachers working in Government, Govt. Aided and Private un-aided schools.

Department of RD Makes Great Strides Towards Achieving the Goal of Housing for All

Port Blair, March 11: In a significant step towards realising the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s dream of ‘Housing for All by 2022’, the Department of Rural Development, A&N Administration has been persistently implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin, the flagship scheme of the Government of India across the Islands. The aim is to provide a pucca house with basic amenities inclusive of a hygienic cooking space to the houseless and those living in kutcha houses. Under PMAY-G, beneficiaries are provided unit assistance of Rs. 1.2 lakh along with 90 person days of unskilled labour wage through convergence with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). Additionally, an incentive of Rs. 12,000 for construction of toilets through convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission – Gramin (SBM-G) is also provided to the beneficiaries.
