Port Blair, Aug 21: A seminar on 'Andaman Nicobar Islands: Emerging Global Tourist Destination', under series of events commemorating India's G-20 presidency was held in the conference hall of the ZSI here on Aug 18, 2022. Organized by Akashvani, Port Blair, the seminar was attended by the Director, Tourism, Dr. Jatinder Sohal as special invitee. The seminar focused on exploring new avenues in the tourism sector of the Islands wherein prominent stakeholders expressed their views on various dimensions of the tourism. 

Port Blair, Aug 21: A Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organised by the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee under the supervision and guidance of ANTCC President Shri. Rangalal Halder and Campaign Committee Chairman ANTCC Shri. TSG Bhasker on the 21st of August 2023 at Gandhi Bhawan, Port Blair.

The programme was coordinated under the leadership of City Congress President, Shri. Mohd Zubair along with the Programme Committee Members Shri. R. K Raj, Mr. M.A Sajid, Shri. Raj Reddy, Shri. Abhibhusan Ghosh, Shri. Abdul Shabir, Shri. Saji Varghese, Shri. Sadab Riaz, Smt. Fareeda, Smt. Fathima and Shri. Iswar Rao who were assigned for organizing this Blood Donation Camp.

Port Blair, Aug 21: A new 5 MT Ice-Plant and 10 MT Cold Storage has been constructed at the Premises of Fish Landing Jetty, Junglighat, created by the Fisheries Department for the benefit of the fisher folk. The fisheries infrastructure facility was inaugurated by the Secretary (Fisheries), A&N Administration, Shri G. Sudhakar, IAS by unveiling the plaque at a brief function held at the Fish Landing Centre. Shri Vikram Singh, Director (Fisheries), Shri Y.Joga Rao, Ward Councilor, Shri U.Maheshwar Rao, Member NFDB Governing Body and Officials of APWD, fisheries and local fishermen community were present.

Mr. Vishal Jolly, National Executive Member BJP & Former State President BJP-ANI has deeply mourned the sad demise of P. Sanjeev Kumar (Aged 39 Yrs), Member of Swachhta Awareness team of PBMC & Joint Secretary of Nagarpalika Swachhta Karamchari Sangh S/o Late Pongachi, R/o Shadipur, Port Blair, who left for heavenly abode on 20.08.2023 at G.B. Pant Hospital, Port Blair. Shri Jolly prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to give strength to his bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. His last rites were performed today on 21.08.2023.

Port Blair, Aug 21: In the series of 100 awareness programmes on ‘Ill effects of alcohol and drug abuse’, under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’, the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with ‘Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts’ (IRCAs) & Police Department conducted the 18th awareness programme on Aug.18, 2023. The Department organized awareness programmes for the students and teachers of Navy Children School, Mahatma Gandhi International School, St. Mary’s School, GSSS Prothrapur, Garacharma & Rangachang Port Blair on Aug.7, 9, 11, 14, 16 and 18, 2023 respectively. More than 360 students including teachers were sensitized on the ‘ill effects of alcohol and drug abuse’. It is important for everyone to stay informed and educated about the dangers of drugs and their consequences besides understanding the legal and health risks associated with drug use and distribution.
