Port Blair, Aug 14: The General Body meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar Anganwadi Workers & Helpers Union was held at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair on 13th August, 2023. AR Sindhu, CITU National Secretary and General Secretary of All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers inaugurated the Meeting. Addressing the members of the Union, she said that the Modi government is trying to shut down the Anganwadi Centres in the country and said that ever since the present government came to power, the budget allocation for ICDS has been reduced gradually.  She said that braving the Covid Pandemic, the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers all over the country helped Covid patients and the community.

Port Blair, Aug 14: A painting competition was organised on the theme of 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' held on 11th August 2023 at Tagore College's Auditorium in Port Blair, by the A&N Traffic Police, as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations. The event saw the active participation of around 100 enthusiastic students from various schools in the Port Blair city.

Kamorta, Aug 14: The District Level Yuva Utsav: India @2047 was jointly organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kamorta and Local Administration, Nancowrie at Indira Park on Aug. 12. Inaugurating the programme as the chief guest, the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie, Shri Shiv Singh Meena appealed to the youth to contribute towards nation building activities and also stressed upon preserving their traditional lifestyle.

Port Blair, Aug 14: Working towards its commitment to make the A&N Islands drug-free, N&MA District Police is conducting regular raids with the help of local informers on illicit liquor and Ganja peddlers. During the month of July, 2023 the teams of various Police Stations conducted raids under the jurisdiction. As a result, around 750 litres of Lehan, 22 litres of illicit liquor & 90 Kgs Handia were destroyed and also 83 Nos. IMFL bottles of different quantities have been seized and 19 persons were arrested under Excise Regulation cases.

Port Blair, Aug 14: The Fisheries Training Center, Marine Hill, Department of Fisheries in association with DBRAIT, Dollygunj and with the financial assistance of National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) will organize a three days training programme on ‘Fish Value Addition’ during the last week of August, 2023. The programme will cover all the aspects of fish and fishery product development by imparting hands-on-training in fish handling, cutting, packaging, pickling, drying and development of breaded/battered products, fish sausages etc. A total of 25 beneficiaries will be selected for undergoing training and the Department will also hand hold the trained groups for undertaking commercial activities through its scheme.
