Poisonous Clouds of Smoke Causes Threat to Institutions and Residential Areas Around

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 17: It was only couple of years ago that the City’s Municipal Council had claimed that it was able to contain the poisonous smoke that was emitted 24x7 for years together from its Brookshabad Dumping Site. The round the year emission of poisonous smoke created by burning of unsegregated waste, had become a dangerous threat to the surroundings. It was only after due deliberations with experts that the Municipal Council could understand how to contain the pollution. The solution was simple; it was to segregate the waste from the house hold level, which had made the Council make tall claims about its achievement.

Swaraj Dweep, Jan 17: In a significant effort to promote sustainable tourism practices, the District Administration, South Andaman conducted a workshop on the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System on January 16, 2025, at Dolphin Resort. The session was organized in collaboration with the Hoteliers Association from both Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep.

The primary goal of the workshop was to educate hoteliers on the Green Leaf Rating System and its crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability within the hospitality sector. The Green Leaf Rating System is an important tool that helps evaluate the eco-friendly initiatives and resource management practices adopted by hotels and resorts.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 17: At the call of the All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers (AIFAWH), Unions of Anganwadi Workers & Helpers all over the country have submitted Memorandum to Smt Nirmala Sitaraman, Finance Minister, Government of India, through the Child Development Project Officers of the concerned area, detailing various demands of the Anganwadi staff to be included in the forthcoming Union Budget.  

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 17: State Bank of India Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Sri Vijaya Puram today commenced 10 days Training Programme on Fast Food Stall Udyami for the candidates of CRC (Composite Regional Centre) Brookshabad. About 20 trainees have enrolled for the programme.  Most of the trainees belong to the rural areas and are ‘Divyangjans’.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 17: In the spirit of civic engagement and creating mass awareness among Islanders about the importance of wetland conservation and management, Andaman Law College, under the guidance of Dr. S. Jayakumar, Principal (i/c), collaborated with the Department of Environment & Forests, Sri Vijaya Puram in organizing ‘Save Wetlands Campaign-2025’. This event was held as part of World Wetland Day which is celebrated globally on February 2nd every year.
