Port Blair, May 5: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma in a letter addressed to Chief Secretary, A&N Administration has requested to provide transportation facilities to the office going staff of essential service departments. Due to lock down, transportation facilities are not available after 1 PM and many people don’t have their own mode of transportation especially ladies to go home after attending their duties upto 5 PM. 

Port Blair, May 5: The Deputy Commissioner (SA) Shri Suneel Anchipaka along with SDM(SA), AC(HQ), AC(S), and AC(U/T) visited the Forest Training School hostel, which has been converted into a Covid Care Center at Wimberley Gunj. The Center has been provided with Doctor and paramedical staff and shall start functioning from tomorrow under the supervision of CMO Wimberlygunj. This step is towards reaching out to the far-flung areas of South Andaman District and decentralised COVID-19 management.

Port Blair, May 5: 665 doses of COVISHIELD vaccines were administered to the eligible beneficiaries by the health teams today (May 4), taking the total number of doses of vaccines administered so far to 1,11,819. The district wise data on regarding  administering of COVISHIELD doses to the eligible beneficiaries on May 4 by the Health Department states that in South Andaman, 385 persons above 45 were administered the vaccine while in North & Middle Andaman District, 102 persons and in Nicobar District, 178 were vaccinated.

Port Blair, May 5: Shri. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party has written a letter to the Chief Secretary requesting to relax the restrictions imposed in the Islands for the daily bread earners to sustain.

Bairagi mentioned that in view of the surge in cases of COVID-19 in the Islands the Administration has imposed various restrictions which include closure of non-essential shops. He said that it is a known fact that since beginning of the ongoing pandemic the poor are the worst sufferers. And the daily bread earners which include tea vendors, barber shops, small vendors, hawkers, fishermen etc. are the ones who are the worst affected.
