DC South Andaman and Team Inspect Nayashahar and Guptapara Areas

Port Blair, March 20: As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the cyclone ASANI is likely to intensify into a deep depression and cyclonic storm on 21st March 2022. The District Administration along with all line departments is working 24 x 7 to mitigate the impacts of the impending cyclone.

In this connection the Deputy Commissioner (SA), Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, ADM (SA), AC (S) and the AC(U/T) made an inspection visit to Nayashahar and Guptapara area. They inspected the dangerously standing trees which may fall due to the effects of the cyclone and may cause danger to life and property. The team interacted with the family members of those houses near which these trees were standing dangerously and he instructed the Tehsildar and his team to attend to these problems on priority. The officials of the Forest, APWD and Fire were given instructions to cooperate in addressing these issues so that no loss to life and property is caused.

The DC also requested the general public to keep themselves away from trees which appear to be dangerous and likely to be uprooted in case of the cyclonic storm. He also advised them to evacuate to safer places or designated shelter homes in case of being located in low lying and flood prone areas and remain alert against flying debris during cyclonic conditions like loose tin sheets etc. In case of any emergency/queries the general public may contact the District Control Room operational 24 x 7 over 03192-240127/238881 or 1077 (tollfree).
