Port Blair, April 14: The District Congress Committee, South Andaman on Thursday held a massive protest against the skyrocketing inflation and unprecedented price rise of Petrol, Diesel and Gas under the BJP government at Brindaban Gram Panchayat.

The protest was led by ANTCC President Shri. Rangalal Halder, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Shri. TSG Bhasker and DCC President Shri. V.K Abdul Aziz under the 'Mehngai Mukt  Bharat Abhiyaan' of the Congress party. Raising slogans and carrying placards, they shouted slogans marking their protest against the Modi government for its alleged “anti-people” policies.

Speaking on the occasion, Halder said that petrol and diesel prices were on Thursday hiked by 80 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in the last 10 days to Rs 6.40 per litre. He demanded that the rising prices of petrol and diesel be brought under control as it has been increased 9 times in the last 10 days.

He added that the rising prices directly affect the poor and the middle-class people, and the government should thus control the prices and inflation, and stop increasing the rates.

Also, speaking at the protest, Mr. Bhasker said that the government is attempting a triple assault on the common people by increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG. He accused the government of "stealing money from the poor" and handing it over to industrialists.

Taking a dig at BJP Govt, Mr. Aziz said that  “If the previous governments could manage without hurting the poor, what justification this government has. When the prices of petrol, diesel and gas did not increase during the elections, it can happen even now".

Prominent among those present on the occasion include Ferrargunj Up-Pramukh Mr. Simson, Brindaban Panchayat Pradhan Mrs. Bindu Kumari, Panchayat Samiti Member Mrs. Amrita Barla, DCC General Secretary Mr. Abhi bhushan Ghosh, Ferrargunj BCC General Secretary Mr. A.
