Port Blair, Aug 30: CPI (M) Port Blair City Area Committee organized a Mass Demonstration in front of the office of Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department, Port Blair at 4.30 p.m. today (30th August, 2022) to protest against the frequent power cut at Port Blair and South Andaman areas. 

Inaugurating the Mass Dharna, Smt D. Hemlatha, Secretary, CPI (M) Port Blair City Area Committee warned the Administration of more such agitations in the future if the power cut continues.  

Addressing the gathering, Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) State Organising Committee accused the BJP-led central government for the frequent power cut at Port Bair town and rural South Andaman areas during the last several months. He said that the central government is going to privatise the entire power sector in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in tune with its policy of privatizing the power sector in the country.  He explained in brief the difficulties being faced by the people due to the unscheduled and undeclared intermittent power cuts throughout the day and night. He accused the A & N Administration of taking vital decisions without consulting the political parties and stakeholders in the islands. He said that CPI (M) will continue to organize various agitational programme on this vital issue of the people.

Shri D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member while addressing the gathering criticized the inefficiency of the Electricity Department officials for not taking any proper steps to end the power cut. 

Shri Pronob Banerjee, Shri NKP Nair and Shri S. Surender also addressed gathering. 

The programme was led by Shri SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member and Shri SB Bhattacharjee. Com B. Chandrachoodan, State Secretariat Member of the Party also participated in the programme.  A large number of party leaders and workers attended the progrmme.
