Port Blair, Oct. 31: A meeting of women of Diglipur, North Andaman was held on 30th October, 2022 morning at Diglipur in which the Diglipur Area Committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) was formed.  Addressing the meeting, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee said that the attack on the women in the country is increasing in the recent years. Despite enacting various laws, the harassment and victimization of women are continuing in all fields. He called upon the women to come forward to fight against the inequalities and injustice meted out to women.       

Addressing the meeting Shri Ramjeeban Sarkar, Ex-Pradhan, Kalighat Gram Panchayat and leader of All India Kisan Sabha while addressing the meeting explained in brief the various problems being faced by women in the islands particularly in North Andaman.  

Participants in the discussion pointed out various issues on which the AIDWA needs to conduct movements at Diglipur.   

In a resolution adopted in the meeting, the women expressed concern over the widespread consumption of liquor and drugs in the Diglipur area and urged upon the Administration to take effective measures to contain this social evil. The meeting also expressed concern over the unchecked price rise of essential commodities.
