Port Blair, July 27: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration to reopen tourism activities at Wandoor beach by opening a double netting swimming zone at Wandoor beach to prevent any potential crocodile attacks, allowing tourists to freely enjoy swimming and the beauty of nature at Wandoor Beach.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament pointed out that for many years, the closure of Wandoor Beach for tourism activities has dealt a severe blow to the tourism sector in the region. Numerous families, both directly and indirectly, relied on the tourism activities around the beach for their livelihoods. The closure of Wandoor Beach has resulted in a sharp decline in employment opportunities for these families.

He pointed out that because of the closure of tourism at Wandoor, petty shop owners and staff, food stall owners and staff, coconut sellers, hackers etc. have lost their employment opportunity at Wandoor.

As the next tourism season approaches, he said that he is gravely concerned about the impact this continued closure will have on the livelihoods of these families.

He requested personal intervention of the Chief Secretary in this matter to reopen Wandoor Beach for tourism.

The Member of Parliament added that Wandoor holds significant importance as an integral link in the Andaman tourism destination. The closure of swimming activities at Wandoor Beach not only affects hundreds of families residing in the vicinity of the beach but also impacts the livelihoods of countless cab drivers who transport tourists from Port Blair to Wandoor and back.

To ensure the safety of tourists, he proposed the installation of a double netting swimming zone at Wandoor beach to prevent any potential crocodile attacks, allowing tourists to freely enjoy swimming and the beauty of nature at Wandoor Beach.

He said that by allowing swimming activities with the necessary safety measures in place, Wandoor Beach can once again thrive as a popular tourism spot, attracting more visitors and creating employment opportunities for thousands of families in the region.
