Port Blair, April 18: The Vulnerable Witness Deposition Centre at Port Blair was inaugurated by Hon'ble Justice P.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice, High Court at Calcutta in the august presence of Hon'ble Justice Shampa Sarkar, Hon'ble Justice Amrita Sinha and Hon'ble Justice Krishna Rao today in the presence of the Registrar, Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court at Port Blair, Learned District and Sessions Judge, other Judicial Officers, members of the Bar and the members of staff dedicating the facility to the Judiciary of A&N Islands.

The VWDC constructed under the scheme creates a safe and barrier free environment for recording the evidence of vulnerable witnesses minimizing harassment or secondary victimization of the witnesses. The Hon'ble Chief Justice highlighted the importance of setting up the Deposition Centre so that the right of all the parties in the judicial process can effectively be enforced. The Hon'ble Judges of the committee also highlighted various aspects under the scheme. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Hon'ble Justice Krishna Rao.
