Port Blair, May 14: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration to fill up the 80 vacant posts of Seaman in Directorate of Shipping Services.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that it has come to his notice that approximately 80 positions for seamen are currently vacant within the Directorate of Shipping Services, A&N Administration.

He said that he is deeply concerned about this issue, especially considering the significant number of qualified youths residing in our islands who are eagerly waiting for such opportunities to arise. These individuals possess the necessary skills and qualifications to excel in the role of seamen and are actively seeking gainful employment within the maritime sector.

The Member of Parliament mentioned that filling these vacant seaman positions at the earliest opportunity would not only enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our shipping services but also serve as a valuable source of employment for hundreds of unemployed youths in our Islands.

Therefore, he requested the Chief Secretary to prioritize the recruitment process for these vacant seaman positions within the Directorate of Shipping Services.

“By expediting the recruitment process and filling these positions promptly, we can address the pressing need for skilled manpower within our maritime sector while simultaneously empowering our local youths with employment opportunities,” he added.
