Port Blair, May 20: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands) along with Pankh NGO, Port Blair successfully organized a comprehensive eye camp on May 16, 2024, on the occasion of International Mother’s Day 2024.  The camp aimed at providing essential eye care services to disabled individuals and mothers in the region.

This impactful initiative held at the CRC premises in Port Blair was part of an ongoing effort to enhance healthcare accessibility for Divyangjans & mothers within the community. The eye camp received an enthusiastic response, with over 52 people benefiting from the services provided.

The camp featured a team of expert healthcare professionals from Dr. Agarwals Hospitals, Port Blair who conducted thorough eye examinations, provided necessary treatments and promised to distribute free corrective glasses to those in need. Additionally, educational sessions on eye health and preventive care were held to raise awareness about common eye conditions and the importance of regular check-ups.

Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director and Mr. Ashok Biswas, Nodal Officer, Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration visited the camp site. Mrs. Sumithamol, Director, CRC A&N-Islands welcomed the gathering. Swami.Sudhanandha, President, Chinmaya Mission chaired the programme as chief guest and Mrs. Komal Anand, Founder cum President, Pankh NGO joined as special guest.

Mrs. Renu Pandey, Mrs. Devi. K, Executive members of Pankh and the team of Dr. Agarwals also dedicated their service. Mrs. Komal Anand, Founder cum President, Pankh highlighted the significance of the mothers stating that “The mothers of the special children are more special than the mothers of other abled children” and the camp is a step towards ensuring that they need to be taken care because they have got more responsibilities and go through lot of stress in their lives.

The eye camp is a commitment to empowering persons with disabilities and supporting their families through various skill development, rehabilitation, and healthcare programs.
