Port Blair, Dec. 28: The First Lady of these Islands, Smt. Bhawanee Singh today inaugurated the Athithi Milk Farm, a project for procurement and marketing of milk through Self Help Groups (SHGs) from different parts of the Islands facilitated by Yuva Shakti, an NGO and supported by NABARD at a function at Dugnabad. The First Lady lit the ceremonial oil lamp to inaugurate the milk farm and congratulated Yuva Shakti for launching the project for ensuring availability of fresh and quality milk to the people on affordable price. She also handed over loan amount to the tune of over Rs 6 lakhs from Yuva Shakti to some of the SHG groups on the occasion.

The Chairperson SSWB, Smt. Ratna Kannan appreciated the initiative of the NGO by involving women SHGs which will not only ensure availability of quality milk but generate employment for women. 

The GM, NABARD, Shri Athirstavel lauded Yuva Shakti for taking up the project which will ultimately benefit the Islanders. The Director CARI, Dr. S Dam Roy assured all possible help and assistance from CARI for the women SHG members while Shri JN Raja, General Secretary, Yuva Shakti presented the project profile.

Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the President-cum-CEO Yuva Shakti, Shri Mohanraam Kumar highlighted the activities of Yuva Shakti, specially the initiatives taken for the welfare of women through SHGs. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Member Secretary, Yuva Shakti, Shri PS Raja.
