Port Blair, Jan. 30: Former Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) Lt Gen (Retd)  Ranjit Singh Dyal passed away today. Conveying his condolence to the bereaved Smti. R.S. Dayal, Lt. Governor Bhopinder Singh said, “We pray to God to rest his soul in everlasting peace and may Almighty God bless the family with courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss”.

Lt Gen Dyal had served as Administrator of these islands from 25 Feb 1990 to 18 March 1993.  Born in village Tukar Bodhni in Kurukshetra district of Haryana, he graduated in 1942 and joined the Indian Army in Punjab Regiment (Para) and was subsequently appointed as Colonel of the Rajput Regiment. He was actively involved in 1965 Indo-Pak War and was awarded Maha Vir Chakra, the second highest bravery award for displaying outstanding leadership and courage in the best tradition of the Indian Army. His loss will continue to be felt by all including the Indian Army.
