Port Blair, Jan. 29: Martyrs’ day will be observed in the islands together with the rest of the country on 30th January 2012 as a mark of respect to the memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India's freedom. Silence will be observed on the day for two minutes from 1100 hours to 1102 hours and work and movement stopped through out the union territory. The programme for the day includes in the morning assembly in schools, speeches, talks relating to the significance of the day highlighting the role of freedom fighters in the freedom of our country will be made to promote a sense of national integration, film shows on Gandhiji & others. The day will also be observed in business establishments, industries and public undertakings.
