Port Blair, Jan. 31: Addressing the media at the press conference held on board INS Kesari, Lt. Gen. Marwah said that the command is prepared to deal with any threats from China. We are concentrating on development of infrastructure in a big way with the support of the A&N Administration. These infrastructures include sea ports, runways, roads etc. which is being planned in a fast pace.

Consequent to the development of infrastructure, we have worked up plans for the next 15 years. We would be deploying greater number of ships, aircrafts and soldiers, the CINCAN said.

Answering to various other queries including rising number of poachers, the CINCAN said, “With the coordinated patrol with our neighbours, there have been no poachers in the recent past from Indonesia and Thailand”.  

On being asked about the Myanmarese Govt. and the sad story of MV Vasanta wherein intelligence report had cleared that the eleven ill-fated crew are in Myanmar, Lt. Gen. Marwah said that MILAN is not a platform to address these issues. The matter has been taken up at the Ministry level.

Answering to another question on the alleged involvement of Army men in shooting the Jarawa video that shook the world, the CINCAN said, each and every individual in Andaman Nicobar Command is well aware and cautious about the local rules.

“I am not aware of any such recent case but if it comes to us with proper evidence, we would be taking appropriate action”, the Commander – In – Chief assured.
