Port Blair, Aug. 8: A Mega Cultural Charity show for Girl-Child’ Education under the title ‘Ek Sooraj Kai Sitaare – a tribute to Versatile Genius ~ K2 ’ was organized by the Govt. registered Socio Cultural Forum “ KASHEESH “ (Estd.1993), Port Blair at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Auditorium on 4th Aug, 2012. The Jt. Secretary (Art & Culture), A & N Administration Shri. Lucas Robert was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while the Assistant Director (Perl.), Directorate of Education, A & N Administration Smti. Leela Varghese was the Guest of Honour.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour enlightened the audience with their inspiring words and appreciated the initiative of “KASHEESH“ for setting an epitome by organizing a marvellously entertaining show for such a Noble & Charitable cause. The forum later handed over a cheque of Rs. 30,000/- to a needy girl child with good academic record Ms. N. Pooja, a student of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Panchawati, as identified by the Directorate of Education.
Zee Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa fame and Kumar Sanu’s melodious co-singer Anuradha accompanied by Kumar Sanu’s co-musicians performed to the delight of the gathering. Islands’ popular voices Rajesh, Nisar, Anant, Ashees, Anil, Rasheed, A.Nissar, Aboo, Arunima & winner of the singing talent contest : 'K4K2' alongwith Islands’ notable dance exponents Smt. Kakoli Poddar, Smt. Sonali Poddar and artists of the Music & Dance Academy ‘ Jhumurr Nrityangan ‘ performed to their utmost which attracted and enthralled one & all till the end of the show.
Few eminent achievers of the Islands Dr. (Mrs.) Rashida Iqbal, Dr. (Mrs.) Shalia Shah, IAS , Mr. Yusuf Khan and Dr. K. Chandrasekhar were felicitated/honoured on the occasion. The forum also introduced releasing of their Annual Souvenir : ‘Udayann - the rise’ 2012 from this year onwards, which has been uniquely designed by Ashees Poddar and is dedicated to the achievements of Islanders (first of its kind) in various fields viz., Art & Culture, Academics, Music, Social Welfare etc.
Earlier, the Forum’s Vice President, Smti. Sumita Sanyal welcomed the gathering while the programme concluded with the vote of thanks by the Forum’s President, Shri. Balasubramaniam. The complete show was conceptualized by the forum’s Cultural Convenor-cum-Creative Director Shri. Ashees Poddar.
