Port Blair, Aug. 3: The news of another crocodile attack at Bakultala on 1st Aug. 2012 had sent a shockwave across the islands. People not only have started doubting on the activities of the Wildlife Department but have even decided to kill crocks if found in and around their villages.

“I suggest that the crocks be caught and moved away from the settlement areas”, the Member of Parliament told the media.

“Either kill the dangerous crocodiles or make arrangements to shift their habitat. A mere Rs. 1 Lakh compensation is not the solution and in the recent case, the LG should make arrangements to provide job to atleast one of the bereaved family members”, MP said.

Bishnu Pada Ray further explained that he was present at Bakultala the day when the crock attack took place. A 22 year youth was killed, which is quite unfortunate. Ajay Kullu had gone fishing along with his friend to earn his livelihood when the unfortunate incident took place, the MP explained.

“I had called the DFO Rangat, DG Police, PS to CS, Secretary to LG, SP, Port Blair and the DC Mayabunder when I learnt about the incident. I was astonished to see that there was no coordination between the departments and hence the body of the deceased could not be located till date. Further to it, the Divers who were flown from Port Blair had only snorkels with them and never went to the area where the crock was located by the villagers”, Bishnu narrated.

“We need a permanent solution to this menace. Either shift their habitat or the people will start killing them”, the MP added.
