Port Blair, Aug. 27: There is an immediate need to preserve the history of our nation’s freedom struggle, said the former BJP President and Member of Parliament, Shri Rajnath Singh on Saturday addressing the media.

Rajnath Singh further said that he is not in favour of construction of resort in Viper Island, where the heroes of freedom struggle laid their lives for the freedom of our nation. The historical and strategic importance of Viper Island should be considered seriously and it should be declared as National Monument, he said.

Addressing the media on the delayed compensation to the tsunami affected farmers, the former BJP President said that immediate compensation should be handed over to the tsunami affected farmers who have been deprived of their right to compensation, sanctioned by the GoI.

He said that the party was of the view that eight years after the devastating tsunami all concerns relating to relief and rehabilitation might have been settled but the party is surprised to learn that still as on date the tsunami affected farmers have not been paid their due. This is causing much unrest among the community as they have been deprived of their basic rights. The party thus demands that immediate relief be paid to all tsunami affected farmers with no condition placed to surrender their lands, the BJP National leader said.
