Port Blair, Aug. 12: The President Pradesh Congress Committee, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor to consider various facilities to the local journalists who are working in limited conditions.

Sharma in his letter has urged the LG for the following facilities to be provided to the journalists.

Well equipped press room may be considered to them at appropriate places in A&N Islands.

Transport concession: Free inter islands transportation for covering the local news and at least 50% concession in cabin class by sea route for proceeding to mainland once in a year.

Govt guest house accommodation at concessional rate: Concessional accommodation in Andaman Houses at mainland to cut down heavy lodging charges in private accommodations while on duty or on a yearly vacation.

Training: Every journalists irrespective of private or Government journalists may be imparted training at mainland institutions on rotational basis and the cases of lady journalists may be given preference.

Govt/ Public Authority Advertisements: Most of the Govt and Public authorities are sending their advertisements to ‘The Daily Telegrams’ for publication. It has been requested to consider distribution of such advertisements to private news agencies also on rotational basis so that they get some financial help and also special publicity.

Pension benefits: The PCC President has requested to introduce family pension benefit scheme for the  private sector journalists to give a secured life to their family members.

Grants to journalist association: The journalist association of A&N Islands may be allowed a yearly grant to meet up their urgent needs, Sharma has urged to the Lt Governor.
