Port Blair, Aug. 9: To mark the memory of the long struggle and as a tribute to the great warriors of Independence, ‘Quit India Day’ was observed in the Gandhi Bhavan, Port Blair today by the Congress Party workers and Senior Leaders.

Speaking on the occasion Shri RV Reddy, District President, Andaman District Congress and Shri Hamid Ali, Vice President, ANTCC briefed on the struggle for freedom by India from the authoritarian British rule, which included a series of sacrifices and national movements, among which was the famous national movement organized by Mahatma Gandhi- the Quit India Movement.

Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Pradesh Congress Committee presently on a tour to Middle Andaman in a message said, “I believe that in the history of the world, there has not been a more genuinely democratic struggle for freedom than ours. The sacrifices by the great and brave nationalists, who had brought independence from the clutches of the British rulers can never be forgotten. It becomes our most consecrated duty to give full respect to those patriots and remember them on all the National days of ours”, a communication from the Secretary to the President PCC said here.
